Building & Restoration
Balustrades &
Frieze work
Australian cast iron lacework is renown throughout the world. The
Wagga Iron Foundry specialises in the supply of castings for replacement
of broken or missing balustrades and other decorative and functional
lacework. We have a wide range of patterns for balusters, balustrades,
frieze work, fringes and centre drops. If we do not have your specific
need, our patternmakers and moulders can faithfully re-create it
from your original.
Note: Gaps between balusters
are not to exceed 125mm; Building Authorities stipulate this to
prevent children climbing through gaps and the height of the baluster
must be a minimum of 1000mm above floor level. We also supply a
Formed handrail for fastening to the tops of the balusters. This
lends strength to the balustrade.
Cast Iron Picket Heads
Not only are picket heads the final touch, the piece-de-resistance
to your beautiful border fence, but also they are a subtle security
statement. We have approximately 15 different patterns to choose
from or we can cast from a sample that you provide. The picket heads
can also be cast with and without holes in the base depending on
your needs. View the
picket head catalouge (PDF, 159k).
Columns
Cast iron columns were established for carrying verandahs and as
being part of ornamental ironwork. Iron is strong in compression
and columns form ideal struts. We cast the round columns in grey
iron whilst the open work columns were not intended for bearing
heavy weight, so they are cast in ductile iron.
Square sections above
the capital, used for fixing frieze brackets, are cast integral
as part of the columns. Round columns are cast to any height within
limits. Capitals are Corinthian or Doric, the shafts are plain or
fluted, and the octagonal base may be varied in height to suit requirements.
Lugs may be cast integral with the rest of the column. Holding columns
to top beams and to the foundations can be achieved without nuts
and bolts being seen. View the column

Wrought Iron
We quite often receive enquires about Wrought Iron work and we have
recently purchased equipment to carry out such work. We are able
to make indoor and outdoor furniture, gates and other decorative
pieces. We will make any piece to your specific design requirements.
Spiral Staircases
These old-fashioned staircases are not only elegant, but they occupy
little space as the required well diameter is only 1930mm. The treads
weigh 24kg each, the tread height being 190mm. The angle subtended
by each tread is approximately 21 degrees. The treads slip over
a central 60mm outside diameter steel pipe, the treads being bolted
together at the periphery.
Grates
Our gully grates sizes start from 150 x 19 x 610mm and go up to
450 x 38 x 450mm.Our drain grates also come in various sizes. If
we do not have what you are after we will always try and accommodate
your needs.
Door Furniture
We have a small but elegant range of cast iron knockers and knobs.
We cast our Regency and Cherub range in both Cast iron and Brass.
While stocks last we have a Lion Head Knocker and Knob in Brass
